I took on this project for a client on a limited budget, who wanted some armor for his first journey to the Texas Renaissance Festival. He had a rough design for a fox sigil he wanted to incorporate, and was looking for a more used look. I had some spare leather, and wanted to experiment with wax hardening and distressing techniques.

 

Once the cutting, tooling, and staining were completed, hot wax was poured over the surface, then melted and scraped. The wax created a decent protective finish, but overall, hardened the leather a little too much for my liking, and did not allow for controlled distress as other methods.
